MeetingInsights for Mac support
Records calls. Writes minutes.
About
MeetingInsights records meetings on your Mac, transcribes them live, and uses Apple Intelligence to write structured minutes: a summary, key points, decisions, action items with owners, and next steps. Everything runs on your Mac. The app has no networking code, no accounts and no subscription.
Features
Recording and transcription
- Live on-device transcription while you record, using Apple's speech frameworks in macOS 26
- Optional system audio capture, so the other side of a call is transcribed alongside your voice
- Global shortcut to start or stop recording from any app, plus a menu bar timer
- Optionally keep the audio recording alongside the transcript
Minutes and Ask
- Generate minutes with ⌘G: summary, key points, decisions, action items with owners, next steps
- Optional live minutes during long recordings and a suggested meeting title
- Ask a question about a meeting and get an answer drawn only from its transcript and minutes
- All of it runs on your Mac with Apple Intelligence
Import and export
- Import M4A, WAV, MP3 or AIFF files, singly or in a batch
- Export minutes as PDF, Markdown or plain text, and transcripts as text or Markdown
- Edit a transcript and regenerate the minutes afterwards
Privacy
- No networking code: nothing is uploaded, and there is no account or sign-in
- Recording, transcription, minutes and Ask all run on your Mac
- Meetings stay in the app's sandbox until you export or delete them
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or third-party SDKs
Requirements
- macOS 26 or later on an Apple silicon Mac
- Minutes, live minutes, titles and Ask require Apple Intelligence to be turned on. Recording, live transcription, import and every export work without it
- Capturing system audio asks for macOS permission the first time you use it, and can be switched off per recording
Recording laws vary by country and state, and many require everyone's consent. Please make sure everyone in the meeting knows they are being recorded.
Troubleshooting
“Apple Intelligence is turned off”
- Open System Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn it on. Settings › Intelligence in the app has a button that takes you there
- Recording and transcription work regardless
“Apple Intelligence is getting ready”
- The on-device model is still downloading or preparing. Try again in a few minutes
System audio isn't being captured
- Check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording and make sure MeetingInsights is allowed
- The recording screen shows a button that opens the right pane
FAQ
Does it record the other person on a call?
Yes, if you turn on “Capture system audio”. The app captures what your Mac is playing, mixes it with your microphone, and transcribes both. macOS asks for permission the first time. You can switch it off per recording or in Settings.
My Mac has no microphone. Can I still use it?
Yes. On a Mac mini or Mac Studio with no microphone, turn on “Capture system audio” and the app records the call audio on its own.
Does anything get uploaded?
No. The app contains no networking code. Recording, transcription, minutes and Ask all run on your Mac, and your meetings stay in the app's sandbox until you export or delete them.
Where are my recordings stored?
Inside the app's sandbox container, in Application Support. Audio is only kept if you turn on “Keep audio recordings” in Settings. Deleting a meeting deletes its minutes and any retained audio.
Can I edit a transcript?
Yes. Open the meeting and use Edit in the transcript section. You can regenerate minutes afterwards with ⌘G.
How do I export?
Use File › Export, the Export button in the toolbar, or ⇧⌘E for PDF. Minutes export as PDF, Markdown or plain text; transcripts as text or Markdown. ⇧⌘C copies minutes as Markdown.
Is there an iPhone version?
Yes. MeetingInsights for iPhone is a separate, free app with the same on-device approach. There is also an open-source Linux version.
